Asthma and homeopathy

old-hepar-sulphThe theory of homeopathy

Homeopathy is based on diluting substances – that could otherwise be poisonous – in water or alcohol.

Some scientists say homeopathic solutions are diluted so many times they are unlikely to contain any active ingredients at all. Homeopathy doesn’t work well with any other system for the most part and is most effective when practiced alone by a professional qualified classical homeopath. But that is not 100% (there are a few who are excellent).

Homeopathy’s editor acknowledges that the most widely held theory for homeopathic action involves the placebo effect. However, he also claims that there is a growing body of evidence for the efficacy of homeopathy, so water memory should be further investigated.

The origin of the homeopathy

Homeopathy was founded by Samuel Christian Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician who had become dissatisfied with the medicine of his day.

Hahnemann lived in a time before the rudiments of modern medicine had been developed, before the germ theory of infectious disease, before the first antibiotic, before systematic testing of drugs for safety and efficacy, before surgical procedures were performed with anesthesia or sterile technique.

Homeopathy in animals does not work any more than it does in people, despite the protests of certain vets who advocate it without reliable evidence. Furthermore, if attention to an individual patient’s needs is essential in homeopathy, I have two questions: 1. Homeopathy works on a dynamic or energetic level. Hahnemann used the term “vital force” to describe the spirit–like energy force that maintains the life of the individual.

Complementary therapies for chronic conditions

Patients with chronic conditions are increasingly using complementary therapies. Asthma is the most common chronic disease in the UK. Patients’ satisfaction with their homeopathic treatment was very high (95% fairly or very satisfied), and ratings of their previous treatment was much lower (20%). The great majority (89%) said that homeopathy had improved their physical condition; 8.5% said that it had made no difference, 2.4% said that homeopathy had worsened their condition.

The homeopathic total experience

Homeopathic doctors consider the patient’s total experience, both mental and physical symptoms and the individual’s emotional state, in searching for the appropriate homeopathic substance. A homeopathic practitioner often seeks out what may seem like irrelevant information, such as unusual food cravings, aversion to particular weather conditions, or the time of day that symptoms appear.

Homeopathic medicine has a vast body of scientific literature in the form of provings. Homeopaths try to defend their art from this scrutiny by claiming it is outside the scope of objective methods, but their defence usually invokes a straw-man of bad trial design. In reality, all the supposedly special features of homeopathy can be accommodated in a controlled trial with great ease.

Homeopathic side effects

Homeopathic remedies are widely recognized as a safe and effective alternative to conventional medicine. With their assistance, your body can heal itself.

Homeopathic remedies, which are made from naturally occurring plant, animal or mineral substances, are recognized and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are manufactured by established pharmaceutical companies under strict guidelines. Homeopathy is used to treat acute and chronic health problems as well as for disease prevention and health promotion. Homeopathic remedies are advertised as safe . They have no side-effects, you can’t overdose, they are non habit-forming, and have no ” use by ” date.

Homeopathic remedies do not have chemical action in the body, and thus work differently than nutrients or drugs which has made it difficult for some researchers accustomed to assessing drugs to adequately consider them. Since the body is clearly affected by many forces that have no chemical content (electricity, radiation, thermal energy, etc.), it is reasonable to think that research designed to observe non-chemical effects will yield more useful information.
